Nurse Scrubs medical uniform buying guide

Nurse Scrub's Advice on choosing medical wear:

Material. Whether it is scrubs, a laboratory coat, or any other medical wear, you will want the material to be comfortable, sturdy, and attractive.

Make sure it fits! Nurse Scrubs doesn't keep up with the latest fashions but she's been around long enough to know your medical uniform has to fit, and it has to fit well! Get it a little on the big side if you have to, that way it won't shrink to small.

If you are wearing scrubs, get them with a wide comfortable drawstring. Your top needs to be roomy enough to move around well in but if it is too baggy it will get in the way of helping your patients.

Scrubs should have plenty of pockets.

Find scrubs that have as many pockets as possible. You want your scrubs pockets to be plentiful and deep. Some scrubs and medical uniforms are sold with smaller pen pockets. Those are especially handy. Nurse Scrubs doesn't need to tell you if you set a pen down in a busy hospital, doctor's office, or lab and it won't be there when you get back.

Ladies, make sure that neckline is not too deep or you have a shirt on underneath. Enough said. Body Armor brand shirts are nice to wear under your scrubs if your work environment permits it, but a well made 100% cotton shirt will serve nicely too. If you work in air conditioning or a colder climate, you may want something a little heavier and with sleeves.

Pick a medical uniform that fits your environment.

Lastly, buy some scrubs that look nice and fit the situation. If a lot of your patients are children, find some with cartoon characters they'll recognize. Seniors usually appreciate bright vivid happy colors too. Men, that goes for you too! Where else can someone wear a uniform covered in purple dinosaurs or flowers and look professional?
